This is how performance royalties are paid. Registration
To receive performance royalties, artists and songwriters must register their works with a Performing Rights Organisation (PRO) also known as a Collection Management Organisation (CMO). This involves providing accurate information about the composition and ownership details.
Monitoring and Reporting
PROs monitor performances of registered works through various sources such as radio, TV, live performances, and digital streaming platforms. They collect data on when and where the work is performed.
Distribution
Based on the collected data, PROs calculate the royalties owed to each artist or songwriter. These royalties are then distributed to the rights holders on a regular basis, usually through direct deposit of paper checks.
