Since the beginning of time, money has always been a very strong element that comes into play all the way from the music creation process right down to the music releasing process where it's mostly seen in action more significantly. More often than not, money in it's necessary amounts is the main superpower that distinguishes a big famous artist from a smaller/less-known artist even though they may both be equally talented.

For this reason, companies such as labels, distribution companies and publishing companies tend to give out money in the form of an advance to the artist or their team as a way to help them fund either the music making process or both. Advances are usually given out under two main terms; recoupable & non-recoupable.

An advance is not free money. A recoupable advance is money given ahead of the sale(s) of the music and is paid back after the sale(s) is (are) made.

A non-recoupable advance is money given usually to acquire a certain artist's music catalog or at least a share of it especially if the artist is very big. This money is not directly paid back entirely using the sales of the music l. However, it is a way to incentivize the artist to do business with them which will in turn yield enough revenue to eventually pay back the advance that was given.

If you're interested in receiving an advance for your music, and you have at least 10,000 monthly listeners. Click here to see how much money you can qualify for.
